About Us

The Hagerstown Area Church Softball League (HACSL), based in Hagerstown, Maryland, is a Christian softball league comprised of teams from many churches, with various denominations coming from a three-state region including Maryland, Pennsylvania and West Virginia who's history goes back to the 1970's.  The League has five divisions of competition, open to both men and women, aged 16 and up with various levels experience.

Our League is sanctioned by the Amateur Softball Association and abides by their rules as well as our own Rules and By-Laws governed by an Executive Committee who sets policies and oversees the League. During the season we have monthly Coaches Meetings which are open to all to attend. Please be sure to read the 2008 season opener letter from our President, Mike Kelbaugh.

Being a Christian (non-profit) organization, our main mission is to provide an environment where Christians can come together and play softball and find fellowship with one another. We encourage our team coaches to: “Sow the Field, Prepare for Harvest, and Claim their Team for Christ. Each team can be somewhat of a mini-ministry and extension of the church for which the teams represent.

The Lord told us he would make us “fishers of men” (Matthew 4:19 and Mark 1:17) and we use softball as the bait to bring people to the church via the softball field.

Our by-laws require that all players attend their team’s church at least two Sundays per month beginning in April and lasting throughout the season to be eligible to play ball. Another requirement is that each team is expected to take their turn running the concession stand and preparing ball fields at the Hagerstown Fairgrounds each night of game play.

Currently our League, in conjunction with Hagerstown Fairgrounds Softball Association (HFSA), is in the midst of the “Let There Be Light” campaign. This initiative has currently raised enough funds and obtained the approval and support of local government agencies to complete the installation of six (6) stadium lights/poles over one field (#2) and  progress is being made to finish lighting the two (2) reamining ball fields. Our goal is to light the fields so that we can play ball later into the night and open up our League to more teams.

Each year our League sponsors several functions:

Our Annual Sports Dinner is a night of fun, good food, music and always includes a special guest. Our guests in years past have been: Adam Lowen, Scott McGregor, Tommy John and the late Pat Kelley. Our Sports dinner is the ultimate purpose of our League, because at the end of the dinner, individuals are given the chance to accept Jesus Christ as their personal Savior.  In years past, we have had over 100 people come to accept Christ who may not have done so otherwise.

Softball Tournaments. In addition to our Opening and Closing tournaments we also have an annual Church World Series Tournament which is open to any church team whether in our league or not.

Annual HACSL Golf Tournament. Our first tournament was held in Aug, 07 and raised over $3,000 towards the “Let there be Light” Campaign. The event was so successful that we plan to hold it every year.

Joe Corbis Pizza Fundraising. Each year teams use this fundraiser to earn money for their teams.

In addition to our own happenings, we also support these events:

Basket Bingo. The League supports the HFSA's annual Basket Bingo because doing so raises money which  go for projects at the Fairgrounds and since that's where we play most of our games --- well that's something worth supporting!

Let There Be Light 5K Run, Saturday, July 25th, 2008.  This is the first 5K Run to help raise funds to add additional stadium lights at the Fairgrounds Softball Complex.
